History & heritage
A pottery village since the Middle Ages, Moustiers owes its fame to its earthenware, which enjoyed its golden age in the 17th century. Clinging to the rock face, the Chapel of Notre-Dame-de-Beauvoir overlooks the village at the end of a Way of the Cross. Between two cliffs shines the ‘suspended star’, the legend of which is linked to the vow of a knight returning from the Crusades.
Geography & setting
Built at the foot of high cliffs, at the mouth of the Grand Canyon du Verdon, the village overlooks Lake Sainte-Croix, one of the most beautiful bodies of water in Provence. It is one of the gateways to the Gorges du Verdon.
