A border town between France and the County of Nice, Entrevaux was fortified in the late 17th century under the direction of Vauban: a citadel linked to the village by a winding ramp, fortified gates, a drawbridge and a cathedral incorporated into the ramparts. The town has retained its silhouette as a military stronghold intact.
